Man Utd have reached an agreement with the French club.
Manchester United have reached an agreement to sell Mason Greenwood in a proposed deal worth £26.7 million plus ‘a large share’ of any future sale.
Greenwood has not played for United since being suspended by the Premier League club in January 2022 after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
All charges against the 22-year-old forward were dropped after key witnesses withdrew their involvement and “new material came to light”. The player denied all allegations.
Greenwood spent last season on loan at La Liga side Getafe, winning the club’s player of the season award after scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances.
A number of clubs in Europe have expressed an interest in signing Greenwood this summer, including Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, Juventus and Napoli.
But it appears Ligue 1 side Marseille are leading the race to sign the former England international.
In fact, Marseille are said to have reached an agreement with United to sign Greenwood, according to The Athletic.
The proposed move does depend on Greenwood’s approval, but Marseille are willing to spend £26.7 million [£23.3m fixed and £3.4m in add-ons] for the striker, as well as a large share of any future sale.
If a deal does materialise this summer, then the player would work under former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who recently took over at the Stade Velodrome.
This week, De Zerbi said he will not prejudge Greenwood if he does join the French club.
“Mason is a world class player but we have not recruited him yet,” he said. “I don’t know what happened but I am not used to get involved in my players’ private life.
“But if he comes here, you have to know that I treat all my players like my sons. I can tell them off in private but I would never attack them in public.”

Greenwood held talks with United chiefs at the start of pre-season over his next club.
The Athletic suggest Greenwood entered United’s Carrington training base on Monday morning but did not train.
Instead, he was involved in ‘constructive dialogue’ with members of the club’s leadership team about signing for another team this summer.
One England player ‘refused to celebrate’ penalty shootout win as telling reaction spotted (an)

An England player did not immediately celebrate the penalty shoot-out triumph against Switzerland.
One England player appeared to initially refuse to celebrate the penalty shoot-out win over Switzerland.
Following a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes of action, the Three Lions emerged victorious via spot-kicks in Dusseldorf.
Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold all kept their cool to convert past Yann Sommer.
Helped by a water bottle containing key information on takers, Jordan Pickford made a superb save to deny Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji and ultimately set up a semi final showdown with the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Alexander-Arnold scored the winning spot-kick and sparked incredible scenes behind the goal.
Players quickly rushed over to the Liverpool star but one player refrained from doing so.
Images shared online showed Luke Shaw showing his class after Alexander-Arnold made no mistake from the spot.

Instead of sprinting over along with his teammates, the Manchester United defender’s first thought was to go over to the Swiss players and console the likes of Granit Xhaka and Akanji.

According to the Daily Express, Shaw attempted to shake hands with as many opposition players as possible.

He did then join the rest of the players and was seen embracing Pickford.
Having been out of action since February due to a hamstring injury, the Southampton youth product made his first appearance of Euro 2024 after entering the fray in the 78th minute.

His selection for the tournament was seen as a major gamble by fans and many viewed it as a pointless call after he missed a number of training sessions and matches.

But Shaw managed more than half an hour on Saturday and gave the team a new type of balance on the left side of the backline.
And Frank Lampard believes Shaw, scorer in the Euro 2020 final, will get the nod for the semi final.

Speaking on BBC One, Lampard said: “If Luke Shaw is fit, he starts. He’s Gareth’s man. If he’s fit, I would play him for the balance of the team.”

Jordan Pickford made a crucial penalty save from Manuel Akanji as England progressed to the Euro 2024 semi finals.
Unseen footage from inside the stadium showed how England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford got inside the head of Manuel Akanji before producing a crucial penalty save.
Pickford has become something of a penalty specialist for the Three Lions and England’s No.1 came up with heroics again in the quarter final in Dusseldorf.
After a 1-1 draw following Bukayo Saka quickly cancelling out Breel Embolo’s strike, the clash went all the way to penalties.
All five of England’s takers did the business, with Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, Saka, Ivan Toney and Trent Alexander-Arnold all finding the net to secure a 5-3 shoot-out victory.

Manchester City defender Akanji was the only player to miss after stepping up first for the Swiss.
But the BBC’s feed did not quite cover the lengths Pickford went to put off Akanji.
He spent a considerable amount of time delaying the taking of the penalty
As shared by presenter Rob Armstrong, footage from the stands showed Pickford taking his time, putting his water bottle and towel down before speaking to the referee Daniele Orsato.
He then guessed right to make the save after having the words “dive left” on his bottle in regards to Akanji’s placement.

Pickford has now saved four penalties out of 14 in major tournament shoot-outs but the Everton shostopper did reveal afterwards that the referee didn’t allow his normal process during the shoot-out.
Speaking to ITV, he said: “Firstly, the referee didn’t let me do my usual process, so I’ve got to adapt… because I like to give the lads the ball. I could only do it for the first time and luckily, I saved it.”
Alexander-Arnold scored the winning penalty to set up a semi final showdown with the Netherlands on Wednesday.
The Dutch came from behind to beat Turkey 2-1 in Berlin.
